On June 4, 2019, the City of Umatilla and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR) celebrated the opening of the new mile-long Wanapa Road with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The road was funded by a $3.5 million in lottery bond money in a legislative effort spearheaded by Rep. Greg Smith in 2013, and opens up access to 500 acres of industrial land to governmental entities.
The Wanapa Industrial Site is a 195-acre greenfield lot of heavy industrial zoned land adjacent to the Port of Umatilla in Umatilla, Oregon. AP provided planning, design, and construction engineering services for development of the site including a preliminary lot layout utilizing a variety of lot sizes from 5 to 20+ acres, developing wastewater re-use options, and design of 5,300 feet of site access road and utility infrastructure to serve the site. This project involved partnerships between the CTUIR, City of Umatilla, Port of Umatilla, and Oregon Department of Corrections to provide vehicle and utility access to nearly 500 acres of land for industrial development.
