Athena-Weston Students Get Unique Look Inside Athena’s New Reservoir

April 14, 2017 By Kari Hagedorn

Athena-Weston middle and high school students got a unique opportunity to tour the inside of the City of Athena’s new 500,000-gallon reservoir prior to it being filled with water later that week. AP President and project manager for the City’s water system improvements project, Brad Baird, was on hand to describe how the reservoir was built and how it works. Ken Faircloth and Kim King of Athena’s Public Works crew and City Councilor Carol Speed were also on hand to answer questions.

The City hired AP to secure funding and complete permitting and other clearances, design engineering, and construction engineering/inspection services for major improvements to their water system. In addition to the new reservoir, improvements designed by AP included a new 1,600-foot deep basalt well, a new well pump station, a new transmission line, new distribution system piping and service lines, sandblasting and recoating of the existing steel reservoir, security improvements, and updates to the existing telemetry system.
