Survey - Case Study
Design-build projects are the civil engineering equivalent of extreme sports - shorter timelines, higher financial risk, and even more attention to detail are needed. The survey work on the Quarry Bridges project for the State of Oregon was one of the first design-build contracts attempted by the state, which means that AP surveyors were on site collecting data on an extremely fast-tracked timeline. Then, while engineers simultaneously designed and revised plans back in the office, the AP survey team performed construction staking, constantly adjusting as they received revised plans from the engineers via cell phone or laptop computer.
With this project's challenging timeline, the AP team, from surveyors to office personnel to management, relied on each other and their team spirit to carry the project through to successful completion. AP's work in this project proved to the state that heavy construction design-build projects are feasible and that the AP team is always up to a new challenge.
