Position: Fisheries Biologist
Location: La Grande, Oregon
Position Type: Temporary (full time, 18 to 24 months) - Potential for permanent position
Base Pay: $52,000 to $63,000 (Base Salary-Depending on Qualifications)

Responsibilities

The Fisheries Biologist will support work in the Columbia River and areas east of the Cascades in Oregon and Washington. This position is expected to provide expertise on salmonid and other Pacific Northwest listed fish species and in-depth knowledge of federal and state(Oregon, Washington) processes. The candidate will be expected to prepare biological assessments meeting USFWS and NMFS standards and contribute to aquatic sections of NEPA documents. This position will require data analysis, modeling, report writing, and coordination and negotiation with federal and state(Oregon, Washington) agencies. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Provide technical expertise on listed Pacific Northwest fish species, both anadromous and resident
  • Prepare biological assessments and write portions of NEPA documents and other technical reports
  • Conduct and coordinate research and data gathering efforts, when needed
  • Coordinate with lead federal agencies, USFWS, and NMFS to successfully resolve issues
  • Conduct habitat evaluation
  • Provide design assistance

Requirements

To apply for this position, a candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in Biology with a concentration on fisheries and demonstrate 5+ years experience in Biological Assessment preparation, permitting, environmental compliance or other related fields. The candidate must have worked in Pacific Northwest fisheries for 1+ years and demonstrate an excellent knowledge of state (Oregon, Washington) and federal laws and processes related to fish.

The ideal candidate must be able to work in a team environment and communicate verbally and in writing with a variety of people and agencies to answer questions and explain information. The candidate must demonstrate an ability to write clear and concise technical reports, including Biological Assessments and permit applications.
